This season hasn't been kind to the Lovett Lions, who are still winless after their ninth game. They were beaten by McDonough 62-24 on Tuesday. Lovett was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as McDonough apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the defeat, Lovett had strong showings from Phallen Patterson, who scored nine points, and Vaughan McKnight, who scored no points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Patterson has scored all season.
Janique Trinidad had a dynamite game for McDonough, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. Aniya Dedrick was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Lovett's loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.0 points per game. As for McDonough, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lovett will take on Woodland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Woodland presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lovett in Georgia (Woodland is ranked 219th, while Lovett is ranked 503rd). As for McDonough, they will head out on the road to face off against Hampton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
