The Loyd Star Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Franklin County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Loyd Star will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Loyd Star never let their opponents score. They breezed by West Lincoln on the road to the tune of 41-0. The result was nothing new for Loyd Star, who have now won three games by 41 points or more so far this season.
Loyd Star can attribute much of their success to Jordyn Kees, who rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and Phillip ross Spencer, who rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Kees hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for seven straight games.
Meanwhile, Franklin County's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 28-26 victory over Port Gibson. The victory was just what Franklin County needed coming off of a 34-14 loss in their prior game.
Loyd Star's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.4 points per game. As for Franklin County, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Loyd Star took a serious blow against Franklin County when the teams last played back in September of 2016, falling 38-6. Can Loyd Star avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
