Baseball Recap: Delphi Community Has No Trouble Against North Newton

Delphi Community won the last time they faced North Newton and things went their way on Monday too. The Oracles were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Spartans. The result was nothing new for the Oracles, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Ryan Colella looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

On the hitting side, Brett Huffman was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Delphi Community is undefeated when Huffman posts two or more runs, but 0-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Keigan Watts, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Delphi Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Delphi Community's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for North Newton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.

Delphi Community will face off against Eastern at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Oracles surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Newton, they will take on West Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.83 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
