The Perry Bluejays's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 62-21 loss at the hands of West Marshall. Perry has not had much luck with West Marshall recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Perry saw an underclassman step up: Lily Meyers scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Meyers has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Perry struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-3) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Perry's defeat was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for West Marshall, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Perry won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Greene County at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Perry focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. As for West Marshall, they will head out on the road to challenge Saydel at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Marshall will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Saydel surely won't give up without a fight.
