The Whitman Vikings and the Blake Bengals squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but sadly the Whitman Vikings had to settle for second. Whitman had to suffer through a rough 35-7 loss at the hands of Blake. Whitman has struggled against Blake recently, as their game on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Blake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kirby Matson led the charge by throwing for 296 yards and four touchdowns on only 19 passes. Zandrew Kamara was another key contributor, rushing for 186 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.9 yards per carry.
Whitman has yet to win a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 5-6 record. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-1 Churchill (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.4% over those games). As for Blake, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Whitman does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Blake will face off against Suitland at TBD on Friday. Suitland is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
