The Whitewright Tigers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 41-31 to Trenton. Whitewright was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Trenton apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colt Yancey, who rushed for 54 yards and three touchdowns. Gage Walker was another key contributor, gaining 81 total yards and a touchdown.
Trenton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Micah Wommack, who rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 65 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Wommack is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. Jayden Candela and his 107 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Trenton's win.
Whitewright's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Trenton, Nocona, and Honey Grove. As for Trenton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitewright will take on Alvord at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Trenton, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Tioga at 7:30 p.m. Tioga has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 132 points over their last three matches.
