For the first time this season, NorthWood will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will square off against the Concord Minutemen at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. NorthWood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
NorthWood easily dispatched Fairfield on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Panthers fell just short of Niles by a score of 6-4 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since May 18, 2024.
Connor Reed and Mason Warren stepped up to the plate in a big way. Reed went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Warren went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Concord made sure to put some runs up on the board against Manchester on Saturday. The Minutemen walked away with a 14-9 victory over the Squires. The Minutemen's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Concord got a massive performance out of Jordan Flores, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Flores a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mark Herman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Concord always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Concord back to even at 2-2. As for NorthWood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. NorthWood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
NorthWood suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Concord when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
