The Falmouth Navigators will square off against the Marshwood Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Falmouth 1.3, Marshwood 1.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Falmouth fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Thornton Academy on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 2-1.
Josh Polchies made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and fired off four doubles, one stolen base, and one run while going 4-for-5. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Shapiro, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Marshwood waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. With that victory, the Hawks brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Tyler Hussey and Ronan Garrett made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hussey struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Garrett pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Hussey has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Hussey went 1-for-2 with two runs, while Garrett went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Tiernan, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Sam Gennaro was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Marshwood's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Falmouth, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-1.
Falmouth couldn't quite finish off Marshwood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Will the Navigators have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
