Fans got a thrill when Erik Villareal and Mario Bermea connected against Karnes City. The connection went for 66 yards, the longest such play in 2A-2 Region IV District 15 this season.
Poth scaled the state rankings by moving to 642 from 673 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Pirates climbed the ranks as a result of besting Stockdale 13-12.
Matt Valadez provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Brahmas fell to Poth.
Valadez was a beast in the backfield as Stockdale fell to Andrew King's team.
Valadez was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 244 yards on 33 carries as Josh West's team fell to the Badgers.
Leading 2A-2 Region IV District 15 in both passing and receiving yards, the Mustangs' Villareal and Bermea have proven to be a lethal combination. Villareal has thrown for 582 yards this season, while Bermea has 20 catches for 285 yards. The Brahmas' Valadez leads the league in rushing yards with 1,653.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Karnes City takes on the Pirates. The Badgers are in fourth place, while Poth is in first place.
The league will see a high scoring game when Stockdale and Bloomington face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Brahmas comes in having scored 172 this season, while the Bobcats have scored 96. Stockdale scored 12 points last week as it fell to the Pirates.
Poth extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Brahmas, 13-12. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
