Basketball Recap: Fort Bend Kempner Falls Despite Big Games from Nia Mcwilliams and Meghan Lausser

Fort Bend Kempner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They came up short against the Victoria East Titans, falling 54-34. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1268th, while the Titans are ranked 504th).

Despite the defeat, Fort Bend Kempner had strong showings from Meghan Lausser, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 19 points, and Nia McWilliams, who posted eight points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards McWilliams has posted since back in November of 2023.

Leading Victoria East to victory were Kamryn Jackson and Kymorie Clark. Jackson dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Clark dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Jackson is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Valentine, who had eight points in addition to seven assists and seven rebounds.

Fort Bend Kempner's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Victoria East, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.

Fort Bend Kempner has already played their next match, a 71-18 defeat against Victoria West on the 14th. As for Victoria East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-47 loss against Randle on the 14th.
