The team relied heavily on Davis Phillips, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mark Primm, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Burlington Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill). They put the hurt on Neuse Christian Academy with a sharp 21-3 victory on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lion considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Andrew Cavender made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Eli Chappell was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. He has become a key player for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. N J Uhlenberg was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Burlington Christian Academy pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill, their record now sits at 10-7.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Burlington Christian Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .471. However, it's not like Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .450. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burlington Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Trinity of Durham and Chapel Hill when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Royals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
