It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Air Academy had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They blew past the Northridge Grizzlies 70-48. The win was just business as usual for the Kadets, who after 24 games remain undefeated this season.
Air Academy was led to victory by Tatyonna Brown and Kinley Asp. Brown went 9-for-14 en route to 19 points and eight boards, while Asp shot 43% from the field on her way to 16 points along with seven assists and three steals. Asp has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Flowers, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds.
Air Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.
Despite the loss, Northridge saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sophia Carbajal dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards. That was a full 54.2% of Northridge's points, marking the sixth time in a row Carbajal has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Maya Burkholder, who had five points and six rebounds.
Air Academy's victory was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 24-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.4 points over those games. As for Northridge, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-9.
Air Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-25 win against Durango on the 7th. Northridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
