Basketball Recap: Elijah Pollard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ord over Wood River

Ord fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Wood River on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 60-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wood River Eagles. The Chanticleers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Chanticleers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elijah Pollard, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 25 points and three blocks. The dominant performance gave Pollard a new career-high in points. Colton Thompson was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 11 points and seven boards.

Ord has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Wood River, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.

Ord will take on Doniphan-Trumbull at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Doniphan-Trumbull's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups. As for Wood River, they will head out on the road to take on Nebraska Christian at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Wood River is facing Nebraska Christian at the right time seeing as Nebraska Christian is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
