The Sweetwater Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Roane County Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sweetwater 0.7, Roane County 0.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Sweetwater will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Meigs County, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 12-0 shutout on Monday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Sadie Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Scott was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Woodruff, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Kylie Baylog, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Roane County's undefeated season almost came to an end. They beat Sweetwater by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 2-1.
Like Sweetwater, Roane County also got a great game from a two-way player: Sailor Presley. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Presley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.
Presley wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rhyan Henslee, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Roane County pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Sweetwater, their win bumped their record up to 15-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Sweetwater hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Roane County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
