Austintown-Fitch and Canfield are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Austintown-Fitch Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Canfield Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Sunday, Austintown-Fitch was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 51-45 to Newark. While losing is never fun, Austintown-Fitch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Newark is ranked 18th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Deshawn Vaughn, who scored 16 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Allen Hill jr, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, even though Harding scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, Canfield still came out on top. Canfield managed a 63-58 win over Harding. The victory was just what Canfield needed coming off of a 79-55 loss in their prior matchup.
It was another big night for Tony Russo, who scored 23 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Dom Cruz was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Austintown-Fitch's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Canfield, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.
Austintown-Fitch couldn't quite finish off Canfield in their previous meeting on January 5th and fell 51-48. Can Austintown-Fitch avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
