The Lynn Bears will head out to challenge the Oakman Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lynn made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Sulligent, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Lynn put the hurt on Sulligent with a sharp 14-2 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bears considering their one-run performance the game before.
Cade Key was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Conner Tittle was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted over his last eight contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Coby Sherer, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Oakman had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past the Bulldogs 12-6.
Like Lynn, Oakman also got a great game from a two-way player: Brady Jones. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Jones has become a key player for Oakman: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Jones was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hampton Hall, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. Skyler Driver was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
Oakman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Lynn has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. Oakman's record now sits at 14-8.
