Peninsula Catholic posted their biggest win since November 30, 2023 on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 70-41 victory over KIPP DC Legacy College Prep on the road.
It was another big night for EJ Joyner, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Devin Gaines, who scored 15 points.
Hampton Roads Academy posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 victory over Walsingham Academy. Given Hampton Roads Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Walsingham Academy is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peninsula Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. Hampton Roads Academy's record now sits at 7-2.
Everything came up roses for Peninsula Catholic against Hampton Roads Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 80-42 win. With Peninsula Catholic ahead 39-18 at the half, the match was all but over already.
