In what's become a running theme this season, the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They blew past Western Plains, posting a 64-16 victory on the road. That 48 points margin sets a new team best for Wheatland-Grinnell this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheatland-Grinnell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Natalie Bixenman, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. Bixenman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Karoline Schroeder, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Western Plains' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaelyn Spangler, who scored four points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Kraus, who scored nine points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Western Plains struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wheatland-Grinnell racked up 16 assists.
Wheatland-Grinnell is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Western Plains, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatland-Grinnell will challenge Oakley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Oakley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. As for Western Plains, they will head out on the road to challenge Cheylin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
