Valley is 1-9 against Johnson since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Valley turned things around against Burbank on Monday. They blew past the Titans 21-4. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vikings considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Meanwhile, Johnson got themselves on the board against Fairfield on Monday, but Fairfield never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Falcons. Considering the Warriors have won 13 games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Naomi Quiroz was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Clarissa Aceves-Fonseca, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
Johnson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairfield only posted an OBP of .062.
Valley's record is now 4-15. As for Johnson, their record now sits at 15-9.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .575. However, it's not like Johnson struggles in that department as they've averaged .564. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Valley might still be hurting after the 21-0 loss they got from Johnson when the teams last played back in April. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
