The Caston Comets will take on the Pioneer Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Caston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Caston fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Argos on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Dragons by a score of 6-5. Surprisingly, this marked the Comets' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Kylee Logan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, Pioneer came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Redskins. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted against the Redskins since April 20, 2016.
Katelynn Haynes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Addison Kennell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Lois Layer, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Caston has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That lines up perfectly with their 5-15 record this season. As for Pioneer, their victory bumped their record up to 18-10.
Pioneer's pitching crew better be locked in on Tuesday. Caston hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. It's a different story for Pioneer, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Caston in the park?
Caston was able to grind out a solid win over Pioneer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-1. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
