There's no place like home for the Clayton Comets, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Willow Spring by a score of 58-46 on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Clayton also won the last time the pair played back in February.
Leading Clayton to victory were Andrew Grimes and Justice Mitchell . Grimes scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, while Mitchell scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Mitchell has scored at least 25% of Clayton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Qua'shaun Williams, who scored six points along with six assists.
Despite the loss, Willow Spring still got an impressive performance from Grant Overman, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Overman pulled down eight or more rebounds. Graham Moose was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Clayton pushed their record up to 3-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Willow Spring, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Clayton won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cardinal Gibbons at 5:30 p.m. on December 16th. Willow Spring will be home for the holidays to greet Garner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Garner knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Willow Spring likes a good challenge.
