The Hillcrest Jaguars won the last time they faced the Monroe County Tigers, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Hillcrest came out on top against Monroe County by a score of 64-52. Given Hillcrest's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Monroe County is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Robert Simpson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. The game was his 12th in a row with at least ten points. Jermonte Stallworth was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and eight assists.
Hillcrest has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. As for Monroe County, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-7.
Hillcrest will be home for the holidays to greet Andalusia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monroe County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
