After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Apopka, The Evans Trojans were happy to have found some success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 28-14 victory over Lake Nona. Given Evans' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Lake Nona is ranked 232nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Chris Peterson, who rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 116 yards and a touchdown on only nine passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Hardy, who gained 120 total yards.
Despite the defeat, Lake Nona saw an underclassman step up: Kendrell Kimmons rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
Evans' victory bumped their record up to 5-5. As for Lake Nona, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evans will face off against Apopka at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Nona, they will head out on the road to face off against Winter Park at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Winter Park will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
