After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Largo, the Pinellas Park Patriots were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Dunedin and snuck past 53-50. This was payback for Pinellas Park, who suffered a 52-20 loss the last time these two teams met.
Pinellas Park's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ja?naija Roney, who scored 18 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Roney has scored at least a third of Pinellas Park's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zamara Davis, who scored 17 points.
Dunedin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haylee Dones, who scored 23 points along with two steals. Dones is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anna Patterson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Dunedin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Pinellas Park has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 5-9 record this season. As for Dunedin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pinellas Park will take on the Gladiators at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gibbs presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Patriots in Florida (the Gladiators are ranked 120th, while the Patriots are ranked 450th). As for Dunedin, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Packers at 7:45 p.m. Hopefully Largo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Wednesday.
