The Mallard Creek Mavericks have not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They walked away with a 59-47 win over Hough on Thursday. This was payback for Mallard Creek, who suffered a 69-59 loss the last time these two teams met.
Mallard Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Langston Boyd out in front who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Rassell Young was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Despite the loss, Hough still got an impressive performance from Evan Otto, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Otto has scored all season. Another player making a difference was John Slusher, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
Mallard Creek's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Hough, their loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 3-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mallard Creek will take on Chambers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Hough, they will head out on the road to challenge Harding University at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
