Maddox Bell made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Cody Fagley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jonny Husband, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Rocky Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Franklin on Wednesday, taking the game 10-7.
The team relied heavily on Isaac Grigsby, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Preston Keith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Rocky Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.
The win made it two in a row for Lakeview and bumps their season record up to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 runs in those games. As for Rocky Grove, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lakeview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like Rocky Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lakeview took their victory against Rocky Grove in their previous meeting back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Sailors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Orioles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
