The Vance Charter Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Oxford Prep Griffins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Vance Charter knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Oxford Prep likes a good challenge.
Vance Charter came out on top against Northern Durham on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. Vance Charter blew past Northern Durham 15-3. The result was nothing new for Vance Charter, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Aubrey Puryear, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Katelin Guerrant, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Vance Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Oxford Prep's offense. They lost 6-0 to South Granville on Wednesday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Griffins were not able to get on the board.
Addyson Faucette spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Oxford Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailey Crowder, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Vance Charter has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Oxford Prep, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-3.
Vance Charter's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Oxford Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Vance Charter continue to outrun the ball?
Vance Charter took their victory against Oxford Prep in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
