Mission Valley recap October 22, 2013
Alec Zavala of Rosemead ran for the longest rushing play in Mission Valley this season against South El Monte last week. Zavala ran for 68 yards on the play and finished with 182 on the day as his team defeated the Eagles.
Gabrielino moved up to 722 from 790 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of beating Mountain View 28-21.
Nathan Coto threw for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 10-18 with 0 interceptions.
Zavala was a passing and rushing force as Rosemead defeated South El Monte. Zavala's favorite target this week was Luis Luna, who caught 3 passes for 63 yards.
Zavala was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 182 yards as Marc Paramo's team topped Ibis Aguilar's team. Patrick Lopez also contributed to the rushing game with 85 yards on the ground.
Leading Mission Valley in both passing and receiving yards, Arroyo's Coto and Nico Lozano have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Coto has thrown for 1,768 yards this season, while Lozano has 28 catches for 703 yards. Zavala from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 874 yards.
At the moment, the Vikings are in fourth, while the Knights are in second.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Rosemead beat the Eagles 30-7. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
