The Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Royals will square off against the Holy Name Green Wave at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Highland just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 4-3.
Shaye Tepley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bianca Czarnecki made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Holy Name got themselves on the board against Lakeside on Thursday, but Lakeside never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 12-0 victory. Considering the Green Wave have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Layla Williams looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Holy Name got a massive performance out of Kylee Blinky, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Blinky has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Posa, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Holy Name always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeside only posted an OBP of .118.
Holy Name is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Holy Name struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy couldn't quite finish off Holy Name when the teams last played back in April and fell 8-6. Will the Royals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
