The Leo Lions and the Angola Hornets squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but sadly the Leo Lions had to settle for second. They took a 50-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. Leo was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Leo had strong showings from Leah Shappell, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Kayla Adams, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shappell has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Bovie, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Leo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Angola only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Kylie Caswell was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with three steals for Angola. Bailey Holman was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Leo has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season. As for Angola, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season.
Leo does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Angola will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Cadets at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
