After flying high against the Newberry Bulldogs last Friday, the Ninety Six Wildcats came back down to earth. Ninety Six took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rebels on Tuesday. Ninety Six was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rebels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Ninety Six lost, one person who can't be blamed is Janiyah Squire. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds. Squire is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Coster, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Ninety Six smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mid-Carolina only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Mid-Carolina found their leader in underclassman BreA Boyd, who scored 31 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Boyd has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Brooks, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Ninety Six's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for Mid-Carolina, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.
Ninety Six will head out on the road to square off against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mid-Carolina will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. They will take on Ninety Six at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Ninety Six focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
