The Glenwood Titans will head out on the road to challenge the Routt Catholic Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Glenwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
While Glenwood's victory against Jacksonville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Titans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Crimsons on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Titans.
Dylan Huff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Huff was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
In other pitching news, Andrew Wahlbrink looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
Huff wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Appenzeller, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Gavin Simmons also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Routt Catholic can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They never let Greenfield/Northwestern get on the board and left with a 4-0 victory.
Like Glenwood, Routt Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Kale Reich. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Reich was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
Routt Catholic's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-3. As for Glenwood, their record is now 7-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Glenwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Routt Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Glenwood skirted past Routt Catholic 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
