The Rickover Naval Seadragons will venture away from home to take on the Schurz Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rickover Naval is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Rickover Naval couldn't beat Francis W. Parker on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. The Seadragons came up short against the Colonels, falling 18-8. The Seadragons just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Emily Sanchez was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Mateo, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Schurz hadn't done well against Steinmetz College Prep recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way two weeks ago. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Silver Streaks by a score of 16-14 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since March 31st.
Hailey Wiley and Maysy Gonzalez did most of the damage at the plate: Wiley went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Gonzalez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lashala Davis, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Schurz always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .543 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Rickover Naval now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Schurz, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Rickover Naval hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Schurz struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Rickover Naval's way against Schurz in their previous meeting back in March, as Rickover Naval made off with a 23-8 win. Do the Seadragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
