Pine River Area is 1-9 against McBain since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pine River Area Bucks will head out on the road to square off against the McBain Ramblers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Pine River Area sitting on three straight victories and McBain on eight.
Even though Pine River Area has not done well against Manton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Pine River Area took down Manton 69-52.
Pine River Area's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Gugle, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Gugle is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Trevor Holmquist was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, McBain gave their fans yet another huge win on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Roscommon as McBain made off with a 65-42 victory. Given McBain's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Roscommon is ranked 434th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pine River Area has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for McBain, they pushed their record up to 15-1 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home.
Pine River Area was taken down by McBain 77-47 when the teams last played back in January. Can Pine River Area avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
