Two dominant forwards in Dontrevious Whitaker and Daveion Richardson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The North Edgecombe Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northwest Halifax Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Edgecombe knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 19 matchups -- so hopefully Northwest Halifax likes a good challenge.
Even though Southeast Halifax scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, North Edgecombe still came out on top. North Edgecombe pulled ahead with a 59-58 photo finish over Southeast Halifax. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 17 to 6 on the offensive boards, as North Edgecombe did.
North Edgecombe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Whitaker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Whitaker has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmir Parker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northwest Halifax came into Tuesday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They slipped by Rocky Mount Prep 68-67 on Tuesday. The win was just what Northwest Halifax needed coming off of a 76-25 loss in their prior contest.
North Edgecombe pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Northwest Halifax, their win bumped their record up to 3-17.
North Edgecombe took their victory against Northwest Halifax when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 74-52. Does North Edgecombe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northwest Halifax turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
