The Sedgwick Cardinals's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Bennington at home by a decisive 48-30 margin. While losing is never fun, Sedgwick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 44th).
Eli Lawson was his usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists for Bennington. Lawson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kian Wilson, who scored six points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Sedgwick has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. As for Bennington, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sedgwick will challenge the Black Bears on Tuesday. Sterling will be looking to extend their current 11-game winning streak. Bennington will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on February 8th.
