Basketball Recap: South Fort Myers' Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak at Home

It may have taken double overtime to finish the job, but South Fort Myers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 67-60 win over the Oasis Sharks. For the Wolfpack, this counts as revenge for the 71-52 victory the Sharks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.

South Fort Myers had a senior duo take command as Ja?Mahdi Ward dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds and Wildelson Thermidor dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thermidor has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ayden Gutierrez, who posted five points.

South Fort Myers smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Oasis still got an impressive performance from Austin Louzao, who scored 23 points. The dominant performance gave Louzao a new career-high in points. Carlos Barbara was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

South Fort Myers' win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-11. As for Oasis, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Fort Myers will venture away from home to square off against Cypress Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Fort Myers is facing Cypress Lake at the right time seeing as Cypress Lake is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Oasis, they are taking a road trip to face off against Evangelical Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Evangelical Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven games.
