Wheeler is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Whiting is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bearcats will host the Oilers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
On Thursday, Wheeler didn't have quite enough to beat Hammond Bishop Noll and fell 3-2.
Wheeler took Hammond Bishop Noll into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-13, 23-25, 17-25, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Whiting suffered their biggest loss since August 28th on Wednesday. They lost 3-0 to Hammond Bishop Noll. The shutout was out of character for the Oilers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in August.
While Whiting was not able to win a set, they sure kept things interesting: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-22, 27-25.
Wheeler will have to contain Sophia Perez as she made an impact in Whiting's last game. She had 11 digs. Perez is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
Whiting's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Wheeler, their loss dropped their record down to 17-11.
Wheeler was able to grind out a solid win over Whiting when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Oilers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
