The St. Charles East Fighting Saints will challenge the Downers Grove South Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
St. Charles East is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Hinsdale South last Tuesday. The Fighting Saints put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 9-1 win. Considering the Fighting Saints have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Lexi Majkszak made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, Taylor Grendzinski was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Addison Wolf was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Downers Grove South). They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Plainfield North on Tuesday. The Mustangs not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 15, 2024.
Downers Grove South also got a great performance from Morgan Hahn as she tossed 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those hits marked the first that Hahn allowed this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jordan Balsavich, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison Yurchak, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Downers Grove South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
St. Charles East is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Downers Grove South, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. St. Charles East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Downers Grove South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Charles East suffered a grim 19-4 defeat to Downers Grove South when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Fighting Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
