Vintage was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Justin-Siena on Tuesday. The Crushers blew past the Braves 14-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Crushers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Carlee Carter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Carter was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Makenzie Matoza was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Abygail Sims, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Sonoma Valley's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Casa Grande on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Dragons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Vintage is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Sonoma Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.
Sonoma Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Vintage has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Sonoma Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Vintage keep running through batters, or will the Dragons buck the trend?
Everything went Vintage's way against Sonoma Valley in their previous matchup back in March, as Vintage made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Crushers repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
