The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They lost to Perkins County at home by a decisive 52-37 margin. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wauneta-Palisade of the 49-44 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Several Broncos players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Peyton Cox, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five blocks. That was a full 35.1% of Wauneta-Palisade's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cheyenne Parrish was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Perkins County was led to victory by Kailee Potts and Ella Homan. Potts scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Homan scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Homan has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Libby Cole, who scored two points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Wauneta-Palisade now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Perkins County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Wauneta-Palisade will head out on the road to take on Paxton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Perkins County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Holyoke at 4:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
