The Essex Trojans will challenge the Lancaster Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Essex has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Essex is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Colonial Beach with a sharp 25-14 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five matches by nine runs or more so far this season.

Makiryn Williams was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Kenedi Campbell was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.
Essex always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .811. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .524 that Colonial Beach posted.
Meanwhile, while it was Lancaster who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was Rappahannock who put up more. The Red Devils fell 8-3 to the Raiders. The Red Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Kelsie Cox made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
The victory made it two in a row for Essex and bumps their season record up to 6-9-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Lancaster, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Essex has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .596. However, it's not like Lancaster struggles in that department as they've averaged .524. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Essex took their victory against Lancaster when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-5 score. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
