Bath County is 2-8 against Eastern Montgomery since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chargers will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Bath County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Bath County barely beat Richwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Chargers blew past the Lumberjacks 13-4 on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chargers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Owen Perdue was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Hicklin, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Eastern Montgomery came up short against George Wythe on Tuesday, falling 15-5.
Logan Owen put in work no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Owen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Coltin Conner, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Conner has become a key player for Eastern Montgomery: the team is 6-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-10 otherwise.
Bath County's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Eastern Montgomery, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bath County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eastern Montgomery struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bath County came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastern Montgomery in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 7-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chargers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
