The Smith Academy Fighting 54th's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell 30-20 to Hamilton. After a 56-51 finish the last time they played, Smith Academy and Hamilton decided to play a little more cautiously this time around.
Hamilton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jagger Hurraw, who scored eight points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Harry Richter, who scored four points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Smith Academy's defeat was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-13. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.9 points per game. As for Hamilton, their win ended a 18-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-17.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith Academy will take on Fort Wayne Canterbury at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Smith Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Hamilton, they will be playing at home against Churubusco at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hamilton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
