Baseball Recap: Plymouth Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mapleton

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plymouth). Everything went their way against the Mapleton Mounties on Thursday as they made off with a 13-3 win. The game was the first time the Big Red have beaten the Mounties on their field since April 3, 2017.

Lex Grose was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Grose was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jarrett Burrer, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Beverly, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Plymouth has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Mapleton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Plymouth will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Mounties: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
