Basketball Recap: Mesquite Sets Scoring Season-High Against Waxahachie

Mesquite scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 93-74 bruising from the Waxahachie Indians. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (64), the Skeeters still had to take the loss.

Waxahachie got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jonathan Bradley out in front who went 8 for 16 on his way to 23 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Bradley a new career-high in steals (four). Trae Nunn was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine boards.

Mesquite is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Waxahachie, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

Mesquite and Waxahachie could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Mesquite (ranked 377th) will meet DeSoto (ranked 67th) at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Waxahachie will square off against Duncanville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 78 places (102 vs. 24).
