The River Valley Panthers will square off against the Central Cambria Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. River Valley is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
If River Valley beats Central Cambria with five runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against Purchase Line on Friday, sneaking past 5-3.
Sara Bollinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maddie Twinchek, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those home runs were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilian Buckles, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: River Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Central Cambria narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Penn Cambria 2-1. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Central Cambria also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Aubrey Ruddek gave up only one earned run on five hits.
On the hitting side, Keira Link was incredible, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.
Central Cambria pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for River Valley, their record is now 7-0.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. River Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Central Cambria struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
