Jefferson is 9-1 against Whitewater since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Whippets at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Jefferson had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Delavan-Darien on Monday. The Eagles blew past the Comets 13-2. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won four in a row.
Aeryn Messmann was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

In other batting news, Hildie Dempsey was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bre Mengel, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Whitewater made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cambridge on Monday. The Whippets were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bluejays. With that win, the Whippets brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Like Jefferson, Whitewater also got a great game from a two-way player: Paige Kollwelter. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Kollwelter was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to triples, as she's now hit at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Whitewater got a massive performance out of Sydney Schilt, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Payton Taylor also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Jefferson pushed their record up to 17-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Whitewater, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
Whitewater's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Whitewater, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Jefferson keep running through batters, or will the Whippets buck the trend?
Jefferson came out on top in a nail-biter against Whitewater when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Whippets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
