The El Segundo Eagles will take on the Carson Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Friday, El Segundo came up short against North and fell 6-2. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
El Segundo saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Cswaykus, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Carson got themselves on the board against Gardena on Monday, but Gardena never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over the Panthers. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Alaina Moran looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Carson let Ruby Grajeda and Jessica Markel run wild. Grajeda got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three doubles, while Markel went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Markel a new career-high. Aleighna Matos was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.
Carson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Carson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for El Segundo, their loss dropped their record down to 10-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. El Segundo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Carson struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
El Segundo skirted past Carson 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March of 2019. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
