Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Martin Falcons walked away with it. They snuck past Long Island City with a 20-16 win on Sunday. Winning may never get old, but Martin sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Long Island City lost, one person who can't be blamed is Carter Dumas. Despite the final result, he rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Dumas was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards.
Martin's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 A-Tech and 0-8 Evander Childs (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 18.3% over those games). As for Long Island City, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4-1.
Martin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Long Island City also has no future games currently scheduled.
